Cut Baits

Cut Baits are pieces of cut fish. Bonita, and Mackerel are two of the most popular cut baits for Catfishing, others include anchovies, sardines, shad, and bluegill*. Filets or chunks can be used, depending on your preference. Cut baits can be enhacned by using dips or scents like XXXBlood.

* Although bluegill can be a popular cut and live bait, its illegal to use bluegill as bait in most of California. The exception is the Colorado River, where bluegill is legal as a bait. Check CA DFG for more details.
